Let’s Dye Something!

Welcome to the Natural Dye Studio

Stepping into the natural dye studio always feels a little like stepping out of time.

There’s no rush here—just fabric, plants, water, and patience. This studio is where color is coaxed rather than forced, where the process matters just as much as the finished cloth. It’s a place of curiosity, experimentation, and occasional surprises (natural dyeing is very good at keeping you humble).

I started this dye studio not because I wanted perfection, but because I wanted connection—to the materials, to the history of cloth and color, and to the slow, intentional act of making something by hand.

Natural dyeing asks you to pay attention. The weather matters. The water matters. The fiber matters. Even the way you rinse and dry your fabric can shift the final color. No two dye pots are ever exactly the same, and that’s part of the beauty. Each piece tells the story of how it was made—what plant was used, what season it came from, and how the fabric responded.

In this space, you’ll see what’s happening in the dye studio as it unfolds:

  • Experiments with indigo, madder, weld, and other plant dyes

  • Fabric tests and color variations (the wins and the lessons)

  • Dye garden moments and seasonal shifts

  • Reflections on slow making and sustainable practices

If you’re new to natural dyeing, I hope this studio feels approachable and encouraging. If you’ve been dyeing for years, I hope it feels like a shared conversation—one where we’re all still learning.

This isn’t about chasing trends or mass production. It’s about honoring materials, embracing imperfection, and finding joy in the process. Natural dyeing reminds me—again and again—that beautiful things take time.

I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s see what colors emerge.
