Take your sewing skills beyond simple seams while creating a sturdy, useful tote bag. Over two sessions, learn accurate construction, lining, straps, boxed corners, topstitching, and finishing techniques you will use in bags, garments, and future sewing projects.
A tote bag may look simple, but it is one of the best projects for learning how to make your sewing more accurate and polished.
In Beyond the First Stitch: Sew an Everyday Bag, we will build a fully finished tote while focusing on the little construction details that turn a homemade project into something you are proud to carry.
You will work through the project step by step, learning how to measure and cut accurately, create strong straps, construct a lining, form three-dimensional corners, and finish the top edge cleanly.
Along the way, we will talk about fabric choices, interfacing, seam strength, pressing, and how to change dimensions once you understand the basic construction.
The Pattern is provided at no cost, and kits are available, including fabric, faux leather and cork!
This is an 8-hour course that can be taken in one day or over two - you decide.
